He’s older and only a little cheaper, and the Redskins didn’t really get a good receiver to match his skill set in former Seahawk Paul Richardson, more of a deep threat type who still has a ton to prove. Richardson, Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder isn’t the most inspiring corps offensively.
Defensively, the Redskins traded away Kendall Fuller to Kansas City in the Smith deal and didn’t re-sign Bashaud Breeland, watching him go to Carolina. They also may not be able to either re-sign linebacker Zach Brown or a comparable replacement. Washington has downgraded by both spending and not spending.
The biggest domino, though, was that it presumably takes the Browns out of the market for McCarron, the Bengals’ backup quarterback who the Browns infamously tried and failed to trade for last season. One less likely suitor for McCarron, who now might have to wait until Cousins, Bradford, and Bridgewater find new teams.
Heck, even Amendola (two years, $12 million from the Dolphins) got more than he’s worth. John Brown ($5 milion) and Ryan Grant (four years, $29 million) got paid well by the Ravens, too. The Eagles paid Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith well last year. Copycat city.
Sherman has been criticized about how he should have shopped himself and not settled for a low-ball deal as his own agent.
It’s not a difficult decision to move on from Crabtree.
Replacing him is the trickier part.
The Hurricanes answered 5 1/2 minutes later. Aho entered the Rangers zone and sent a quick pass to Teravainen, who immediately sent a return pass to Aho. Aho shot it on net and Teravainen sent the rebound past Georgiev for his 20th of the season.
Here are some players to jump on or dump off as the playoffs arrive. Please keep in mind I’ve listed players you might be able to actually acquire rather than writing, like, trade for Evgeni Malkin. (But if you can, please trade for Malkin.)
